Still Point Art Gallery invites submissions for its upcoming online exhibition: Global Lifestyles: Large Cities, Small Towns, Tiny Villages.

Some people love the big city, others love small towns, and still others enjoy a stay in a tiny village. Around the globe...the city, the town, the village...each has its own skyline, view, personality, flavor, aroma, and feeling. Perhaps your art is inspired by where you live or maybe it is the product of your travels. In any case, artists are invited to share expressions of the global lifestyle...be it in the big city, a small town, or a tiny village.

Dates and Deadlines

After closing as the featured exhibition on December 7, 2010, Global Lifestyles will remain online through December 7, 2011.

Eligibility

Open to artists 18 years of age or older from around the world who submit artwork in any medium except video and wearable art. Submissions must be the creation of the artist. Reproductions of original artwork are not accepted.

Images

Artists may choose one of three ways to submit images: (1) you may upload images using our online form; (2) you may send images by email [very quick and easy and you can still pay online]; or (3) you may send images on a CD. Slides and prints will not be accepted. Whatever way you choose, images should be saved in jpg format and resized to 72 dpi, less than 1.5 MB, with the maximum dimension of the image being no more (and preferably not much less) than 1000 pixels. Failing to resize your image will result in problems with uploading. The file name of your image should follow this convention - last name, title of work (perhaps abbreviated), and number (matching entry form number) [for example, SMITH_SUNNYDAY_3.jpg]. Do not include stray characters such as # or * in your file name. Doing so will prevent your file from uploading properly. If you choose to email images, please send them to director@stillpointartgallery.com. If you choose to send your images on a CD, please mail to Still Point Art Gallery, 193 Hillside Road, Brunswick, Maine 04011. CDs will not be returned. Once the submission deadline has passed, no image substitutions or changes in prices may be made.

Please Note: If you use Safari on a Mac platform, our online form will NOT work to upload your images. If you use a Mac, (as we do!), please use Firefox to upload your images.

Also Note: It only makes sense to submit the highest quality images possible. If you are not an expert at photographing your artwork, there are several great articles on this topic available on the internet.

Entry Application and Fee

Artists are asked to complete an entry form and submit a non-refundable fee of $25 for up to 3 images. Additional images may be submitted for a fee of $5 each, up to a maximum of 8 images at $50. ($25 for 3 images plus $25 for an additional 5 images to reach the maximum of 8 images at $50) If you complete the entry form and submit your images online, payment may be made online by PayPal immediately following submission of images. If you submit images by email, you should include the following information about each image in the message: title, medium, dimensions, framed/unframed, and price. Please also include your name, address, and home or cell number. Payment may be made by requesting a PayPal invoice or by check or money order. If you submit images on CD, please include an entry form. Again, payment may be made by requesting a PayPal invoice or by check or money order. Write checks payable to Still Point Art Gallery and mail to 193 Hillside Road, Brunswick ME 04011.

Selection and Awards

Final selections for the exhibition will be made by the Gallery Director, Christine Brooks Cote. A small number of Artists of Distinction will be chosen who will be invited to show their art as Gallery Artists in 2011.

Sales

Generally, work submitted should be for sale. However, if you wish to exhibit pieces that you do not wish to sell, indicate “not for sale” with a zero for the price. By signing the entry form, the artist grants the Gallery the right to sell the work(s) of art. The Gallery will devote its best efforts to the sale of all art. A sales commission of 20% will be retained by Still Point Art Gallery on all sales. Work will be sold for the price indicated on the entry form. Work must remain available for sale and must remain online in the Gallery for the entire duration of the exhibition; no early withdrawals will be permitted. Once the exhibition concludes (December 7, 2010) and moves into the "Past Exhibitions" area of the website, artists are no longer obligated to keep their work available for sale by Still Point Art Gallery and are no longer obligated to pay a commission to the Gallery in the event of a sale not arranged by the Gallery.

Use Rights

By submitting work to be considered for the exhibition, artists grant Still Point Art Gallery the right to use their image(s) for the purpose of marketing.

Art allows one to question the unquestionable, speak the unspeakable, and attain the unattainable. For the "true artist," life draws meaning from art, and art draws meaning from life.

This exhibition invites submissions from "true artists." Artists are encouraged to submit works that are enmeshed with their lives...works that hold the artist's joys and sorrows, stories and secrets, reflections, musings, and passions.

This exhibition celebrates diversity in America through the genre of portraiture. Artists are encouraged to think about diversity in America in its broadest sense - ethnicity, race, age, class, religion, and gender...also occupation, national or regional origin, hobbies and interests, regional customs and lifestyles, and more.

Still Point II is the second annual exhibition focused on exploring those things that artists, through art, hold still.

This exhibition is by invitation only. Artists who were named Artists of Distinction during 2009 will be able to exhibit their art as a Gallery Artist during 2010.

Dates

The Gallery Artists’ online exhibition will open on January 1, 2010 and close on December 31, 2010. Art that will appear online on January 1, 2010 (opening day) should be submitted by December 7, 2009.

Fee

There is no fee for submitting images as a Gallery Artist.

Images

Each artist is limited to exhibiting a maximum of twelve (12) pieces at a time, and artists need not feel compelled to exhibit that many. Artists may choose to exhibit two, four, eight – up to a maximum of twelve. Artists may also add or change pieces during the year. New work may be added at any time as long as one does not exceed the maximum of twelve images showing at one time. Pieces may also be removed, but once a piece is put up for exhibition, it must remain there for a minimum of sixty (60) days.

Images may be submitted using the same online process that artists use when submitting images for a juried show. There is a link at the bottom of this page to the online entry form. Images should be saved in jpg format and resized to 72 ppi, less than 1.5 MB, with the maximum dimension of the image being no more (and preferably not much less) than 1000 pixels. Since there is no fee, simply ignore that part of the entry form. Once all images have been uploaded, the entry is complete. Artists will receive a confirmation email from the Gallery.

Sales
