Four Freedoms Re-Interpreted
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the 1943 publication of Norman Rockwell’s Four Freedoms paintings based on the 1941 State of theUnion speech by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The paintings are Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear.
Shanti Arts is dedicating the fall 2018 issue of its journal, Still Point Arts Quarterly, to writing and art that reinterpret the Four Freedoms for today.
Writing submissions may include fiction, non-fiction, essay, and poetry. The deadline for writing submissions is May 1 (extended from April 1), 2018.
Art submissions may include painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and more. The deadline for art submissions is July 1, 2018.
Those whose work is accepted for publication will be notified by August 1. The fall issue of Still Point Arts Quarterly will be released September 1 and will be available in a free digital format and a print format on sale for $14.50. We expect a wide distribution for this special issue. Accepted art work will also be shown as an exhibit on our website.
This project was conceived by artist Louis Ebarb, and Shanti Arts is very pleased to support it. We hope writers and artists will contribute to this project at a most consequential time in our country's history.
A truly beautiful publication.
